This person stated – I had an older, plastic OXO salad spinner for several years and I must say it worked very well and was built with a very durable spinner mechanism. I upgraded to this version when I accidently dropped the old one and it cracked the bowl. Regrettably I have had the same experience as several other reviewers seem to have here the spinner mechanism broke after only a few uses. It seems that if the inner basket has any significant amount of weight in it and you press firmly on the spinner mechanism there is some plastic part that snaps inside the mechanism.
The buyer said – I had a plastic version of this for many years and it worked great. I broke it and yes it was my fault. I had no problem purchasing a second one and I thought the steel version would be an upgrade but I was wrong. It seems that they have changed the plastic spinner top to a much cheaper non flexible plastic. It broke the same way the other reviewers said theirs broke. This is not the same quality product I purchased before, do not buy this item. I also I wouldn’t buy the smaller one either; it has the same lightweight plastic non flexible lid.
This purchaser said – Unfortunate but I have to agree with the negative reviews on this product although I love the OXO line and their products. I had an all plastic version of this spinner for many years and when I renovated my kitchen I thought I would treat myself to the stainless steel version. The plunger part broke in about three months. At first I thought it was a fluke or maybe that was just pushing it too hard so I purchased another one. But the new one broke within 3 months also. When I looked online I found that this is a very common complaint with the stainless steel version.
